Joining a club at university is a life changing experience, you’ll meet new friends, experience the rush of winning for your university, and also enjoy some great social events.

Team Sunderland have over thirty clubs to choose from, so there is something for everyone. All clubs provide weekly training sessions led by qualified coaches, transport (when required), and equipment. Some examples of the clubs available include American Football, Netball, Kickboxing, Rowing, and even an Equestrian club!

We have over twenty sports teams competing in BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues each Wednesday, as well as other competitions throughout the year which include: TeesWear Varsity against Teeside University, and Clash of the Minsters against York St. John.

Club membership ranges from £45-£85, for more information on how to get involved in a team whilst at the University of Sunderland email uni.sport@sunderland.ac.uk or call 0191 515 3696.

Half year memberships are also available, which are £20 for non-BUCS teams, and £25 for BUCS teams.

We understand that being an athlete is not the only way of participating in sport. Audience support and involvement is as important as the sport, so the University encourages you to support your Team Sunderland - with all University sporting matches free to watch. Research has shown that active involvement in sporting communities helps individuals develop a meaningful sense of membership, especially for those who have been displaced geographically, such as international students and students living University accommodation.
