University of Sunderland Assessment Centre

The University of Sunderland Assessment Centre (formerly The North East Regional Assessment Centre - NERAC) was set up in 1996 and is one of the UK's longest established assessment centres. We provide study needs assessments for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) to students eligible for support. Find more information about Disabled Students Allowance.

Study needs assessments aim to identify and recommend support, this might include:

  • the use of assistive technology
  • non-medical support such as a Specialist Mentor or Specialist Study Skills Support
  • ergonomic study environments
  • general allowance
  • travel (mileage allowance or taxi costs)
  • additional accommodation costs

Our assessors aim to recommend the best possible combination of learning support and guidance appropriate to each student. We produce a customised report which is sent to you, your funding body and, with your consent, your Disability Support Team.

Assessments are fully inclusive and we will charge your funding body a single assessment fee. You can contact us at any point during your study if you have any additional needs, even if you have progressed to a different course or university.
