Safety on Campus

We want to ensure that all University of Sunderland students can study knowing that the University has their best interests and safety in mind and that we have a wide range of safety initiatives in place to keep students safe on campus.

Campus Security

We want all of our students to have the best possible university experience and are committed to your safety and wellbeing. We provide a full time security service, including a dedicated CCTV network monitored from our control room, and the Security Team can be contacted 24/7 by any member of the University community.

Campus Police

The University has a full-time campus Police Officer, PC Daniel McGwinn. Daniel works closely with Northumbria Police and all members of the University community. He can be contacted 24/7 via a special number given to all students when they enrol.

University Security and the Campus Police are happy to give advice and guidance to anyone in the University community

Covid 19 Measures

With the Covid19 pandemic still prevalent, the University is taking all precautionary measures necessary in accordance with UK Government advice. We are monitoring developments closely and adjusting our response and operations in the best interests of the University community. We understand the the concerns you may have at this time, and have put support in place to help answer any questions you may have.

Enhanced Cleaning Schedules - Our Estates and Facilities team are hard at work and are undertaking enhanced cleaning schedules to ensure that all contact points are cleaned thoroughly and promptly.

Timetable Staggering - With the majority of classes being delivered through online methods, contact time on campus is limited however when you do attend campus, rest assured that our on campus timetabled sessions are set up so that they are staggered and minimise the amount of contact you can have with other students as well as classrooms that have been utilised

Hybrid Working - The majority of the University are working remotely with approx 25% of staff on campus at any one time. This limits the amount of staff on campus and potential increased contact points as well as provides more space for social distancing measures to be put into place.

All guidance and FAQs to students on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) can be found through our Covid Student Guidance pages.
