About the Student Financial Guidance Team

The Student Financial Guidance Team is the University's expert provision of information, guidance, representation and on-going support for students on any aspect of student finance.

The service is free, confidential, impartial and non-judgemental. Your initial contact with the team will be by telephone or email. If we cannot answer your query immediately, we can arrange an appointment with you at your convenience.

We can support you with all aspects of student finance, including:

• problems with applying for grants and loans
• contact with relevant organisations, such as Student Finance England or the Student Loans Company, as long as you have given them consent to speak to us
• information on the student finance system and other sources of financial support
• assistance with claims for state benefits for those students who remain eligible
• help with identifying educational charities and trusts, and with applications for funding

If you do find yourself in financial difficulty during your studies, the Student Financial Guidance Team can also help you with an application to the university's Student Support Fund.

Basic budgeting may prove to be a problem as a result of low income or the timing of your student finance payments. One way to help you keep track of your spending during your time with University of Sunderland is a budgeting tool called PANDA which can be found when you download the University of Sunderland app.

All current or prospective students on University of Sunderland courses can use our team's service - whether full-time or part-time, undergraduate or postgraduate, on or off-campus.
