University of Sunderland Emergency Loan scheme

If your first Student Loan instalment is delayed, for example, because:

• you applied late, or
• your Student Finance provider (e.g. Student Finance England) has a backlog of applications

the University's Student Support Funds Office may able to offer you an Emergency Loan from its Hardship Fund, to tide you over until your first Maintenance Loan payment arrives from Student Finance into your bank account. The Emergency Loan should be sufficient to pay for your food and travel to University for a short period, but due to the small scale of the fund it is not intended to pay for large outgoings such as rent or mortgage payments.
