However you are getting to Sunderland, there are a lot of options and we'll guide you through how to get here.

When you're in Sunderland, you will be able to use the fantastic transport network in the city. You will also be able to take advantage of student discounts and free student travel on University bus services.

Walking Students

Walk it!

All University campuses and student accommodation sites are within easy walking distances of each other: 

  • City Campus – St Peter’s Campus: 18 mins 
  • Clanny House/Forge – St Peter’s Campus: 40 mins 
  • Clanny House/Forge – City Campus: 24 mins 
  • Panns/Scotia – St Peter’s Campus: 12 mins 
  • Panns/Scotia – City Campus: 17 mins

Bus University

Free campus bus service

The University has two options for travelling around the city by bus, both free for students with valid student identification.

The Sunderland Connect service travels between the two University campuses at a 15 minute frequency. Don't forget your ID!

The Campus Circular service is a free bus travelling between the University's two Sunderland campuses and our student accommodation.

Student Cycling

Cycling

Cycling is a good way to help keep fit and can be quicker and cheaper than travelling by car or public transport. The University has cycling facilities across our campuses, including secure bicycle storage at City Campus. Cycle parking is available at multiple sites at City Campus and St Peters.

Student discounts are also available at Darke Cycles, a bike shop in Sunderland. Take your University ID card, and you will receive 10% discount on your purchase.

You can get your bike checked for free by the team at the Cycle Hub at St Peters. The hub is a community facility, offering free safety checks and great value servicing and repair work. The Cycle Hub is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 9am - 11am.

Car Park

Parking

Students can use the Stadium of Light car park free of charge. The Connect Bus service stops at the stadium and can be used to get to each campus. The car park is also within walking distance of both campuses.

The University operates a parking permit scheme that allows students to park on campus at a reduced cost. Application forms can be accessed here.

Car sharing is a good option to save money on petrol and parking, particularly if you study on the same course and are on campus at similar times!
