Making friends at the University of Sunderland couldn't be easier, the idea of moving to another country may feel daunting at first but there are a few things you can do to make it easier.

First, try to get involved in as many activities and clubs as possible. This will help you meet people with similar interests and make it easier to start up conversations. In fact, Team Sunderland and Sunderland SU societies will help you to do that.

Secondly, attend as many campus events as possible! The Global Friendship Event takes place on Wednesday evenings, and is a great opportunity for students to come together, socialize and make friends and play games. I made so many memories and friends on that day.

Third, don't be afraid to strike up conversations with people you don't know. Everyone is in the same boat as you and is probably just as nervous about making friends, so they'll be happy to chat.

Finally, don't forget that there are lots of international students at the university, so you're not alone in feeling a bit lost and confused. Talk to Student Support and they'll be able to help you connect with other students and provide the needed help.
