Our performance programmes support those students who perform & compete at a high level.
Students can access support if they compete either in a team or individual sport through funding bursaries as part of our Elite Athlete Scheme as well as receiving opportunities to represent the City of Sunderland as part of the Team Sunderland National League programme.
Students can also access world-class physiotherapy and sports injury rehabilitation and performance services via the Performance Clinic as well as the new strength and conditioning provision on offer in CitySpace.
As part of the University of Sunderland’s continued development of services that it can offer elite athletes during their time at university, Team Sunderland has implemented and grown the Elite Athlete Scheme.
The Team Sunderland Elite Athlete Scheme exists for student athletes performing at an advanced level, providing financial support and opportunities for personal development.

Students at the University of Sunderland are able to access discounted rates at the Performance Clinic based in CitySpace.
They offer an integrated team approach in injury management, assessing, treating and rehabilitating your injuries, whilst analysing the cause and offering a complete package of care to prevent further injuries.

As well as competing in BUCS leagues Team Sunderland also has teams competing at the highest level of professional and National Leagues in the UK.
Team Sunderland is a growing initiative established in 2011 by the University of Sunderland.
