Canvas

Canvas is the University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It’s where all your course content and information from module and programme leaders will be placed so you can access them 24/7.

You'll also be able to chat with staff via Canvas as well as view course / module calendars to keep up to date with what's happening.

Canvas is where all your programme and module content is stored. Your lecturers will store all your learning materials on here for you to easily access.

Canvas will not only allow you to view learning materials but it will also be where the majority of your assessments will be submitted through the Turnitin system. You're also able to use Canvas as a way of communicating with your lecturers.

Accessing Canvas

Once you have completed enrolment we'll get to work to create your Canvas account  This can commonly take up to 24 hours after your enrolment has been finalised, so you may find you have access to your account on Microsoft, but not on Canvas.

You can log in to Canvas using your User ID (ab01abc) and password. You won't need to authenticate your login for Canvas.

Don't forget, if you have already enrolled onto Flying Start, you will already have a Canvas account, so we'll just be ensuring we provide you with your programme and module spaces.

Please note: For international students, completion of enrolment refers to your completion of the online enrolment process as well as any document/visa checks. You will not be considered to have completed enrolment until after you have completed all necessary checks.

Learning spaces

Your programme space refers to the main programme areas of Canvas. You will have a programme space for each course of study. Your programme space will come packed full of handy information to help you during your time at University for your course-specific content. For example, this is where your programme handbooks will be held

For each module you study, you will see a module space within Canvas. This will give you access to all the learning and teaching materials for that specific module as well as module announcements and also will house your assessment information and your assessment submission links.

Within Module spaces, you will also be able to access links to any online classes you may have. It's always worth checking in with your Module Leader to see how they structure their space so you know how to navigate around it with ease.

You will also have other spaces, such as our Pre-Arrival space for Flying Start and our Digital US module.

Please note: when you first log in, you may only see your programme space, Flying Start and Digital US. Your modules can take a few days to display. Some programmes may also have optional modules that you need to select. If this is the case, you will see those modules in Canvas shortly after the module selection deadline.

Your dashboard

When you log in to Canvas, you will instantly be taken to your dashboard. This will show all your favourite spaces. If you can't see what you're after, we

If you can't see your modules this could be because they are not favourited spaces. We recommend you navigate to "Modules" and then "All Modules" where you can then star/favourite modules to show on your dashboard.

You also may not have access to certain module spaces as these are not published by your Module Leader as of yet or that they are not yet available as they are to be studied in a future semester.
