Campus Travel

From time to time, you may find yourself needing to move between campuses whether this is for academic commitments or just to experience everything our campuses have to offer. Here you'll find out the est ways to move between the campuses and the wider City of Sunderland.

Connect Bus Service

Located just over a mile apart, our campuses are within walking distance of each other. However, we also have a dedicated Bus Service operated by Go North East that can get you around campuses.

You can catch the Sunderland Connect 700/701  which is free by showing your campus card.

University Minibus

Alongside the Connect service, we also have a free minibus service that runs between halls of residence and the University campuses

The circular route operates during Term Time, Monday-Friday between 8:00-22:30 and stops at The Forge, City Campus Travel Hub, Panns Bank/Scotia Quay, St Peter’s Campus and Murray Library.

The minibus is available to the University of Sunderland students and staff only. The driver may ask to see your campus card. You will find the timetable at our on campus bus stops and outside halls of residence.

Bus

There are many bus services that operate to Sunderland with a wide network of bus operators making it easy to get around the city and wider northeast region.

Metro

The nearest Metro stop varies depending on your destination – here are our locations and the nearest Metro station:

  • City Campus: University
  • Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter’s, Panns Bank and Scotia Quay: St Peter’s

All Metro stations have cycle storage there or somewhere close by. If you want to make cycling part of your journey you can leave your bike securely locked to one of the cycle racks, Streetpods or in a smart cycle locker and continue with your journey by Metro.

Cycling

Cycling is a great way to keep active and can be quicker than travelling by car in congested conditions. It's increasing in popularity with more people cycling to and from the campus, and we aim to make it as easy as possible to get here by bike. We have a variety of places to park your bike across campus as well as facilities for you to shower and change.
