It’s natural that you may have questions while you study with us, and that’s why we have a dedicated team to manage all your enquiries no matter how big or small you think they are – it’s important we get you the right information.
The Student Enquiries team are best placed to advise and support you with any questions you have throughout your studies. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way through Compass, your enquiry management platform.
Compass is a great resource for you to keep in touch with us. You can access this via the portal or through the handy Compass UoS mobile app. Every time we provide an update to you, you will receive an email to your student email, so it’s worth checking your student emails! Compass also provides access to hundreds of FAQs, so you may find the answers you’re looking for with the touch of a button!

We understand that your academic journey can be difficult, overwhelming, and filled with anxiety and unpredictability. We want to reassure you that the Wellbeing team are here for you all throughout your time here.
We offer counselling and wellbeing appointments, digital support and wellbeing related workshops. We also help make referrals to specific support services within Sunderland.
Our professional experts help with a range of wellbeing or mental health related issues from mild to moderate anxiety, depression, stress, bereavement, suicidal ideation and many more
We support students with a disability, neurodivergence (such as Specific Learning Differences, ADHD or Autism) mental health difficulties, long-term health conditions, hearing loss, visual impairment or mobility issues.
We’ll work with you to create your Student Support Plan, including adjustments in exams, and talk about how we can overcome any barriers to your learning to help you succeed. Book your appointment now to agree your Student Support Plan.
If you need any support to access your classes such as a practical assistant or interpreter, we need to know quickly so we can organise this for you from day oneexams .

Our International Student Support (ISS) team is here to help throughout your studies with any visa, immigration, and welfare-related queries you may have.
We provide guidance on Student Route Visa, including extensions, taking a break from study, and Graduate Route eligibility. Our International Welfare Advisor can also help with accommodation, health, family, and finance queries. If you ever need to speak to the team, we have regular drop-ins across both campuses and you can also submit an enquiry on Compass
The Student Financial Guidance team are the experts in all things student finance. Whether you have a query about student loans, need help with budgeting and managing your money, or want to discuss a change in your circumstances, please get in touch with us.
We can talk about other sources of financial support, give guidance on claims for state benefits for those students who remain eligible and identify any educational charities and trusts who may be able to support you.
Remember, any changes to your circumstances, such as changes to your course or financial changes at home might have an impact on your funding – we can help.
If you find yourself in financial difficulty during your studies, we can talk about an application to the university's Student Support Fund.
The Student Support Fund is here to help if you're dealing with unexpected money troubles that might make it hard to continue with your studies, especially if something unplanned or a sudden change has made things tough.
While the fund can offer some extra support, it’s not meant to cover everything. Applications for the fund are means-tested, so you'll need to provide some proof of your situation to be considered.
