Compass

Compass is the University's portal for all student enquiries. No matter how big or small your question is, Compass will be able to help.

You'll be able to take a look at handy FAQs, book appointments along with being able to submit enquiries for any questions you may have and be up to date with what's happening every step of the way.

Accessing Compass

There's a variety of different ways you can access Compass which includes the Compass porta, via email communications from your enquiries or appointments as well as through the handy Compass UoS mobile app.

Portal - The Compass portal can be accessed 24/7 online at www.sunderland.ac.uk/compass. You will also be able to log in via the link on MySunderland.

Email - Whenever you submit an enquiry you'll receive an email notification to your student email account. Within this email, you will see a quick synopsis of your specific request and will be able to click the relevant links within the email which will take you directly to your enquiry.

Your Profile

Your profile provides you with the key information we have about you such as your student number, email and address/contact details. You can review these details at any time during the year and make sure they are up to date so you never miss out on any important information or news from the University.

Programme - Within this section, you will be able to see your programme information including your start and expected end date, level of study, current enrolment status and modules you are taking. Here you can also access your Programme Leaders contact details.

Appointments - Here you will be able to see all of the events or appointments you've booked. You can click on the individual appointments to take you directly to that specific appointment so you can see any notes.

Documents - Within the documents tab you will be able to access any document that we have attached to an enquiry to you in one place. So if you know you need to refer to a document you've already been sent, you can simply go straight to the document here rather than through your enquiries to find it.

Enquiries

Once you have submitted an enquiry, you will be kept up to date with what's happening and will be able to track your enquiry all the way to its resolution. You'll receive email notifications to your student email account anytime there's an important update on your enquiry. If you have the Compass UoS module App, you'll also receive a handy push notification.

Open - Your open enquiries will show any enquiry that you have that's currently being resolved. You can add a note to an enquiry at any point if you have any further information that would be handy for us to know.

Closed - Here you will be able to see all your previous enquiries that have been resolved and where needed you can re-open an enquiry if you still require support.

Unread - The unread sections gives you quick access to any enquiries that you have not yet been able to catch up on.

Whether your enquiry is open, closed or unread, when clicking on the individual enquiry you will be able to see the 'Enquiry Details' which provide a full summary of your original request whereas the 'Enquiry History' will show you every individual update on that specific enquiry.

Submit an Enquiry - Alongside being able to view any current or previous enquiries, you will also be able to submit any enquiries you may have.

Calendar

If you need to speak to a specialist adviser, you'll be able to book an appointment with the team or individual staff member through the Compass portal or through the mobile app.

Your calendar will show any events or appointments you have booked and will give access to a whole host of information on the event or appointment which will also include any notes made prior to or during the event/appointment.

FAQs

The Gateway Team deal with thousands of questions every year from the weird and wonderful such as "What was the score in the Sunderland game on the weekend?" to the nitty gritty ones like "I have not received my Student Loan yet, however when I check my application it looks like I applied for the wrong course, what can I do?".

As we deal with varying questions every single day, chances are the question you have, no matter how big or small may have already been answered. Our FAQs are here to give you instant access to the answers you need, all you need to do is type your question in and we'll search our whole FAQ database to see if we have a suitable answer.
