Personal Academic Tutor

A Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) supports students to achieve their academic and personal aspirations, and enables students to become autonomous, confident learners and engaged members of the scholarly community.

Personal Academic Tutoring is an essential part of the University's approach to welcoming new students through the Flying Start programme, and existing students as they progress through their stages of study.

What is a Personal Academic Tutor?

Personal Academic Tutors are here to:

    • Enhance the student experience and provide robust and consistent support for our students during their time at university,
    • Be a consistent source of guidance, information and support for the student throughout their studies,
    • Ensure consistency and a comparable experience,
    • All campus-based undergraduate and postgraduate taught students will be allocated a named PAT, who will be a member of academic staff from the University,
    • Once the student has enrolled, PATs aim to contact or meet with their tutees to welcome them as soon as possible, often within Induction.

Finding your Personal Academic Tutor

MyApplication
Once you have applied to study with us we will give you access to your own bespoke application portal called MyApplication. Here you will see all the details of your application.

Once you meet all conditions of your offer and choose us as your firm choice we'll match you to your Personal Academic Tutor and you will see who this is on your MyApplication homepage. We will give you the name of your PAT and show you a photo of them as well so you know who to look out for!

e:Vision
Once you complete online enrolment, you'll be given access to e:Vision. Here is where you will see an array of information including information on your Personal Academic Tutor. This will be displayed on the e:Vision homepage to the top right-hand side and again we will give you access to their name, email address and photo.

Induction
Within your first week, you will follow your Induction Timetable. To the top of your timetable, we provide you with key resources including who your Programme Leader is, and who your Personal Academic Tutor is as well as a link to our 'New Student' support website and Compass, the student enquiry platform so you can always turn to someone for assistance.

Within your induction week, you should also have the opportunity to meet with your Personal Academic Tutor. This may be on your timetable by itself or may be part of an introductory session.

Contacting your Personal Academic Tutor

Within the PAT section on e:Vision we'll not only advise on who your PAT is but we also provide you with their direct email address so you can get in contact via email.

The first part of the Personal Academic Tutor though is the personal aspect, so it may be that overtime your PAT will contact you via other methods, such as TEAMS or Canvas.
